Pixel Aspect Ratios:

In order to offer the highest possible resolution in the different formats we have decided to offer all footage as square pixel, 1:1 aspect ratio. The frame dimensions work out as follows (all formats are offered as 16:9):

1. HD – 1920 × 1080
2. PAL – 1024 × 576
3. NTSC – 864 × 486

This means that PAL and NTSC footage is not ready for broadcast “out of the box” – it does however mean that you are working with the highest possible quality files. Should you require footage in a format that’s broadcast-ready or 4:3, please get in touch with us.

All of the footage offered is progressive (ie. non-interlaced).

Frame Rates

All of our sequences start life at 25fps but since the clips are progressive you can reinterpret the frame rate to your desired frame rate whilst keeping the quantity of frames constant. If you are reinterpreting for NTSC, this will result in a clip that is slightly shorter in duration (just short of 5 frames per second of footage) but beyond that the quality will be unaffected.

Compression

You may be aware that the vast majority of stock footage providers offer only compressed footage using codecs such as H264 or Motion JPEG. Not so with InnitTV – all of our footage is supplied uncompressed in all its glory.

The clips are supplied as QuickTime movies which are rendered using the Animation codec, a fast lossless Quicktime video codec created by Apple Computer to enable playback of RGB video in real time without expensive hardware. The Animation codec uses run-length encoding.

Bundled plates

In some cases your footage will automatically come bundled with additional plates, generally consisting of the background and foreground element plates used to composite the final shot – this is useful where you might wish to influence elements in the shot without having to resort to rotoscoping.

As with all other aspects of the footage, should you have special requirements such as 4:3 ratio or anamorphic, please let us know and we’ll be happy to modify the footage to suit your requirements – in most cases this will not incur an additional charge.

Sample frame downloads

Whilst they do include a watermark, our sample frame downloads come in the form of full resolution (for all available formats) and uncompressed TIFF images. This will give you a full set of what is available for that product which will allow you to test the clip/s on your own system prior to purchase.
